Coping Strategies
Life can seem really overwhelming and isolating when caring for a loved one with a substance misuse issue. You may have lived with the situation for many years and the behaviour has become entrenched and maybe the fear of making things worse has prevented you from seeking help for yourself.
You may feel hopeless and not feel able to share what is going on for fear of being judged by others, or you may feel scared that whatever you say or do will cause upset or arguments and so end up walking on eggshells just to keep the peace.
You may feel that you will be able to save or fix your loved one.
You may not know how to communicate with your loved because you feel angry and hurt at their behaviour, you may react to a situation which is delivered from charged emotion which could lead to conflict.
This is something that you may go through every day and feel powerless to the situation.
Carers Support and Wellbeing will help you find a way of coping, by working through how you want your life to be, to learning coping strategies to help with every day situations.
You are not alone and that there is help out there for you, this could be emotional or practical support or being with other carers who understand how you feel.
